Colehill Parish Plan

Over 160 people attended the public meeting in Colehill on 18th October 2006 and strongly endorsed the need for a Parish Plan.  Eleven people volunteered to form a Steering Group, which held its first meeting in November.  One of the first tasks was to analyse the very large number of issues recorded on the Post-It notes and the returned forms to identify the key elements that should drive the Parish Plan.

Further information is being gleaned about the District Local Plan and evidence is being taken from the Chairman of the Friends of Colehill Library which, as many will know, is again under threat of closure.

Application has been made to the Dorset Community Partnership at County and to the Colehill Parish Council for funds to draw up the Plan, and they have agreed to provide £4,750 and £600 respectively. Most of this will be spent on engaging the public into its formulation.

As we near our goal more and more residents of Colehill will be drawn into the work.  If you have not already indicated your desire to become part of the team please give your name and telephone number to the Clerk to the Colehill Parish Council on 01202-887786.

Colehill Parish Council are pleased to announce that they have been able to keep their Precept for 2003/04 down to £41,802.  The Parish contribution for a Band D property in Colehill will be £14.14, this represents an 11% decrease from the previous year.
This compares to the 15% increase of Dorset County Council, 19% increase for Dorset Police and the 3.9% increase of East Dorset District Council.

REMOVAL OF BT TELEPHONE BOXES IN COLEHILL  Colehill Parish Council was most concerned to read in the Daily Echo dated 21 January of British Telecom's proposed withdrawal of 172 telephone kiosks in the Region.  These proposals included two locations in Colehill.  The Parish Council has received no prior notification from BT let alone been invited to comment or consult on the proposals.
This sense of outrage was compounded by the removal of the telephone apparatus three days later and substitution of a notice dated 23 January invites anyone wishing to object to this fait accompli to contact BT within 28 days.
The Parish Council objects most strongly to loss of the kiosk at the junction of Middlehill and Olivers Road (Ref. SR 01202 - 884066) outside Colehill Memorial Hall.  There is no telephone at the Hall and the kiosk was a lifeline in the event of an emergency to those using this public building.  It was also the advertised emergency phone for the Olivers Park play area off Middlehill Road and well used by passing trades people who are unable to stop at the Post Office or at One-Stop, Canford Bottom, due to traffic congestion.  The box at the junction of Lonnen Road and Sandy Lane was a valuable emergency resource for residents in the Pilford area, the nearest public call box is at Post Office Crossroads an up-hill walk of almost half a mile.
The Parish Council objects in the strongest terms to this lapse in consultation and demands the reinstatement of telephone services at these two sites.

January 2003

Surface Dressing on Middlehill Road.  The Parish Council has been very active in negotiating with Dorset County Council over the deterioration of the road surface on Middlehill Road.   We now have assurances from the Eastern Area Highways Department that the area between the Post Office and Colehill First School will be properly resurfaced in February.
