Tuesday 22nd November - Demolition of Glynville Court
This morning the demolition began in earnest of the 1970s old people's home, Glynville Court in Glynville Close, Colehill. Preliminary works had been going on for several weeks and hoarding has been going up over the last few days but the monster machine, which had been parked, stationary, on the lawn until now, finally started to knock down walls today. The site of the 1970's home is to be used to build 5 houses and 17 flats for the Synergy Housing Association.

Friday 18th November - Chairman's Reception
On Friday evening the Parish Council invited over 100 members of the public - representatives of the institutions and charities that help form the community of Colehill - to the Chairman's Reception with buffet. This annual event is our way of thanking the headteachers and governors of the schools, the leaders of the churches, the youth groups, the charities, the crossing patrol attendants, the librarians and others and is also a good forum for putting faces to names of who's who in the village and discussing some local issues. Representatives of the bordering communities of Wimborne, Holt, Verwood, Corfe Mullen and Verwood - with whom the Parish Council share some common concerns, interests and resources - were invited and the vice-chairman of East Dorset Districct Council was also present. Cllr. Dave Mitchell, Chairman of the Parish Council, gave short speech and the entertainment was provided by Colehill Girlguides and a group of Colehill Eagle Scouts sang a selection of campfire songs from the stage. Mrs. Barbara Gooch gave an announcement about a fund-rasing event for the Reef rebuilding appeal. The catering was provided by the Colehill Evening W.I.

Friday 21st October - Forest Forge present "The World Outside" at Colehill Memorial Hall
On Friday, Ringwood based, professional theatre company Forest Forge came to perform their play "The World Outside" in the Memorial Hall. They have a long history of taking professional theatre to rural venues and the play was specially written for their 30th anniversary. The story concerns the homecoming of members of a New Forest family and was inspired by research and interviews with people living and working in the region. The performances were superb and the play itself thought-provoking and mysterious. Over 80 people attended - phototographs below:

Saturday 15th October - Forestry Meeting in Cannonhill Plantation
About 30 members of the public - and several dogs - attended a "drop-in" meeting with Andrew Norris and Simon Smith, of the Forestry Commission, and Tim Leavers and Rob Dunning, of the timber harvesting contractor EuroForest Ltd, to hear about the work taking place in the plantation during October and November. Tim Leavers cited a statistic that the average daily consumption of timber products across the world is approximately 4lbs per person. Depending on quality the softwood timber from the Cannonhill Plantation may be transformed into structural timbers for the building industry (roof trusses etc), fencing, pallets, chipboard, horse-litter and fuel pellets; UK timber is generally not of high enough quality for joinery purposes - doors, door-frames etc, which explains why so much is still being imported. The sparse, sandy ground at Cannonhill and Uddens is largely unsuitable for growing quality hardwoods - though there is some Oak, Birch and Spanish Chestnut on the site. Operator Rob Dunning gave a demonstration of timber harvesting using their £340,000 Ponsse harvester. Members of the public are asked to observe all the signage and to keep well clear of the machinery during the on-going works. Disturbance and damage to paths will be kept to a minimum and signage and barrier tape will be removed promptly once the work is completed.

Friday 30th September - Death of Former Councillor Gwen Divall
|
Colehill Parish Council is deeply saddened to learn of the death, on Friday, of former Parish Councillor Gwen Divall, of Northleigh Lane.
Gwen was co-opted onto the Parish Council after her husband, Gordon (himself a Parish Councillor and former Council Chairman), died in July 2002 - though she had already rendered great service to the Council in the preparation of the case for the land acquisition at "The Triangle" and also in preparing the parish history boards for the centenary celebrations (those now on display in the Betty Webster committee room at the Memorial Hall). She served until 2007 but did not stand for re-election, due to ill health and family issues.
She has nevertheless continued to be of invaluable service to the Council and community on matters legal, historical and rights-of-way. In particular she was involved in the recent claims for rights-of-way over the land between The Vineries and Cutler's Place. Gwen and Gordon had lived in Colehill since 1960. Before retirement Gwen was Deputy Headteacher at Ferndown Upper School, she also served as a Magistrate for many years.

29th April - Royal Wedding Street Party in Stroud Close
Stroud Close had a spontaneous street party to celebrate the royal wedding last week. Gill and Rob Clark invited all their neighbours to a lunchtime
BBQ and - as the Close is a cul de sac - there was no problem with traffic, so the party was able to carry on until darkness drove people back to their
houses. It was a lovely way to meet people and all ages had a wonderful time.

24th April - Forest Fire in Cannon Hill Plantation
Sometime in the afternoon of Easter Sunday fire broke out in Cannon Hill plantation just to the North and below the archaeological tumulus known as "the viewpoint". By around 2pm there were four fire appliances on site, though there was a delay in obtaining the keys to the new locks at the Cannon Hill Road and Uddens Drive gates. By the morning of the 25th the three or four acres affected were still smouldering and a fire Service vehicle and personnel were still on site - damping down.

19th March - Drop-In Morning / Open Day
On Saturday 19th we held an event to discuss the progress of the Parish Plan, the work of the Parish Council generally and to encourage people to stand for election to the Parish Council on May 5th. A steady trickle of visitors made the event a modest success - but we tried.
There is a gallery of photographs from the open day here, anyone who missed it, but would like copies of the documentation about the work of the Parish Council and/or the Parish Plan should contact the clerk to the council on 01202 887786
