3rd December - Theft from Grit Bins

Here in Colehill the Parish Council have some grit bins in-situ which we provided in earlier years, we have another 5 sites identified and agreed with the County Council for installation this year - unfortunately the snow has come earlier than expected.  Although the Parish Council have purchased these bins for the community we have arranged for them to be supplied and replenished with road salt/grit by the County's Highways Department.   There is no arrangement for anyone from County or Parish to apply the material to the roads and pavements - this is the responsibilty of the community members in the area in which the bin is sited.

Unfortunately we have reports that at least one of our bins was "raided" yesterday by a man with a white horsebox type vehicle, who helped himself to 3 bags-full and drove away.  This is clearly theft and we would urge anyone witnessing such behaviour to note the registration number of the vehicle and report it to the police and/or the Parish Council.  We also have reports of people taking away wheel-barrow loads for their own drives and pathways and this is also an offence as this material is specifically provided for roads and pavements and not for use on private lands.

29th November - Colehill Safer Neighbourhood Team

Given the severe budget cuts that the Police Authority will have to make, the Parish Council has written to the Chief Constable to highlight how much we value PC Steve Brett and his team. We hope that the SNT will continue to play an important role in discourgaing the anti social behaviour Colehill suffered from in the past.

19th November - Chairman's Reception

Over 120 "movers and shakers" from Colehill and the surrounding communities came together on Friday night for the annual "Chairman's Reception". Although there were some councillors invited from the neighbouring parishes of Wimborne, Pamphill and Shapwick, Verwood and Ferndown the emphasis was on the people of the village and it is in the way of a thankyou for the good work that they do in the community.

14th November - Remembrance Day Parade

At least 400 people braved the light drizzle to remember the 45 Colehill residents who died in the Great War of 1914-18 and the 2nd World War of 1939-45.

While the roll call of the dead is usually read by one of the Church wardens, this year the roll was read by the chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr. KD Johnson.   The Last Post and Reveille were excellently played by young trumpeter Joseph Skypella, while the young oboist who accompanied the hymns was Jenny Clayton.

TED PHILLIPS

It is with great sadness to relay that Ted passed away recently.

A long-serving parish councillor, Ted lived in the area since 1954 and was a Colehill resident since 1970. He represented Parmiter ward and was a vociferous campaigner to keep this area within Colehill.

Ted was a retired engineer who enjoyed travelling. He had a great sense of humour and wrote humorous articles for regional and national magazines.

His friends and colleagues at Colehill Parish Council will miss him.

Air Ambulance

Charity No. 1078685

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance came into service in March 2000 and has attended to over 6000 incidents. The aircraft responds mostly to emergency calls such as road traffic collisions and sporting incidents. On average it receives 3 to 4 calls per day, but during busy periods and summer months, it can be up to 8.

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance needs £3,800 a day to keep its helicopter and highly trained crew in the air. As a charity, the service relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help it continue its life-saving work. Airborne within three minutes of a 999 call, the Air Ambulance can reach most of its operational area within nineteen minutes. It needs an area only half the size of a tennis court to be able to land. It can then transport patients to the appropriate hospital for their injuries - being able to do this will make the difference between life and death for many patients.

You can help this vital service by recycling your unwanted clothes, shoes and household textiles. Next time you clear out please use the banks at the Co-op and Hayeswood First School. The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance urgently needs your donations.
